Résumé

Project management is currently applied in many fields as a relevant and important strategy in managing organisational change; for example, the field of fundraising. However, research related to the application of project management to fundraising projects is still in its infancy. A qualitative exploratory research approach is used pursuant to which 15 fundraisers were interview and their responses to seven questions related to the thesis topic were analysed. In addition, the researcher's own biographical experience served to assist in the formulation of the conclusion. The thesis explores the values of fundraisers with respect to in-memoriam donations, situated within the context of a specific type of project, referred to in the field of fundraising as an annual campaign or appeal. This research uncovers many values that are important to fundraisers who manage in-memoriam donations, such as accuracy, compassion, empathy, sensitivity, respect, genuine/active listening, patience, etc. It also provides significant insights into mananagement of in-memoriam donations such as to challenges surrounding accurate and prompt acknowledgement of in-memoriam donations, adequate and appropriate recognition of in-memoriam donations, better stewarding of in-memoriam donors and the conflicts that arise in situations of death /grief in the context of management of in-memoriam donations. The responses of the interviewees suggest options for solutions to these challenges. Moreover, both project management discipline and fundraising practice would benefit were the other applied to it.
